I read this book about creating a portfolio to get hired. Although I don't need a portfolio yet I thought it would aid me in branding myself and creating a promo pack as well as guide through next year in picking work to create so that I have good things for my portfolio.
Some notes I made:
- don't put work in thats weak
- don't be misleading - only put in work what you want to do
- don't put anything in you can't deliver
Less specialised / multidisciplinary
- range of problems and consistency of vision eg. restaurant logo expand to colour of interior and website or food packaging (like my open counter brief)
Specialised agency eg. packaging company
- concentrate on versatility
- show initial ideas of only are (show creative thinking to best)
- published work at front (eg. illustration)
Print
- quick to view
- easily passed around
- able to scan / photocopy
- back up / drop off purposes
- A3 preferably
- mounted in sleeves
- good quality paper or lightweight card
Digital
- website / pdf
- what / how / order
- high quality images
- quick
After speaking to John he gave me some tips:
- email - follow with call (after 2 days)
- why / what / what can i do
- Arron Draplin - youtube portfolios
- Tm marketing - TIM
