PPP: Business Cards

After my previous attempts at business cards failed because the embossing wasn't strong enough for the textured card to be very visible and also the fact it was reversed and therefore didn't work in what it said I reprinted them but this side double sided. I now have these ready to take to London when we visit studios.

Studio Visits: Emails

Ahead of my London trip and after having no response from my previous emails I started a hunt for more.

I rang up one that I had previously emailed but she said I had to email about that kind of thing and it takes a few weeks to reply. She suggested to re email again which I did.

I also rang IYA Studios and she said to send my portfolio through to her which I did. Unfortunately I got an unsuccessful response.

I also emailed Pearlfisher which responded surprising fast so I sent through my website portfolio for them to look through.

Studio Visits: Emails

I've been searching and sending for emails hoping to get some local studio visits in order to go talk through my portfolio and also reached out to Turner Duckworth. If I don't hear anything back i'm going to ring to see if I can go visit the studios instead.

San Fan: Internship

In response to my email about the internship they replied surprisingly fast just requesting two things before they move any further with the process.

Due to the visa having to have a host employer I replied with this. Hopefully this will be what they are after and will continue to the next stage of the process.

Studio Visits: Emails

I'm travelling down to London at the end of February therefore I've emailed studios in London about visiting there studio.
I emailed:
The Allotment
Method
Pearlfisher
Turner Duckworth

Simply stating who I was, what I liked about there studio and about coming to visit them. Hopefully I will get a response from this as I tried to do emails direct to specific people.

Dinosaur - Manchester

They had an email on there site for placements so I thought I would send my portfolio through. Due to the name I thought I would try something different in approaching them to stand by adding a link to a video. Hopefully they will enjoy it and come back to me.

Salt - San Fran

When hunting for studios in San Fran I found 'Salt' which actually had a paid internship advertised. This would be perfect for an opportunity to go over to San Fran as it would help with the financial side of living over there. Therefore I decided to give it a shot and emailed them with my online portfolio asking them to consider me for the internship.

San Fran: Networking

I spoke to John about placements and contacting people etc. I mentioned about San Fran and gave me a list of people from San Fran that he sourced from linked in as an example of how to do detective work to source the right people to contact.

He also named me Alex Broadhurst who is a senior designer at Apple and studied at Leeds Uni. His friend Jimmy Smith is an ex LCA. This shows how you can get close to people through connecting on linked in.

Placement: Analogue

I had decided to look for studios local to me now for placements as I do love what the north are doing design wise and also its practical financially. I found a studio called Analogue situated at the bottom of town which I really liked there projects. Therefore I've emailed them about going for a studio visit.

PPP: Involve Studio

On the phone I asked about placements after thats what the course requires and would be more accessible for me now. She said they've never done placements before and wasn't sure wether it would be worth while as it could take awhile to get shown the ropes.

However Monday morning I received this pleasant email!

My plan of action is now to ring Vickki to clarify what they mean by the email and to make arrangements from there.
