Portfolio Interview: Alphabetica

Me and Katie went down to London and with my recent success and responses I had two meetings lined up for Friday.

However unfortunately I had technical difficulties with my phone at the very last minute which was are main source of aid getting around London. This meant that the possibility of getting from one side of London to the other for the two meetings, by myself and then regaining contact with Katie again was impossible. This meant I had to make the decision to call Pearlfisher and reschedule my appointment for another day.

Although worried about there response she was very kind and said it was fine and to let her no when I was next in London to rearrange.

Then we both made our way to Shore ditch where my other appointment was with Alphabetical and Katie had her business.

If you don't know London well and you don't have a decent phone to guide you, it can be very difficult to locate a building.

Luckily in the end we found the place and I met with James.

We went through my portfolio from looking at my website and I went through each brief and explained what I had done.

He was very pleased with what he saw and liked some of the things I had done. He gave me some advice in doing about 7-8 placements (which he meant were about 2-3months long) before going to work somewhere. He said it was important to find out what kind of work you want to do and where you enjoy working before signing up for a job because you might regret just taking the first thing that comes along as you think thats your only option.

He said he would be in contact after talking to the directors about placements as it wasn't sure what they were willing to offer.

I found this whole experience of London and the meeting very valuable. It was interesting to run through my portfolio with someone as it made me realise there were some flaws in it. There were aspects missing such as the logo at a large scale and also that I needed to refresh my memory on the actual background to some of the briefs. It could be quite useful to put this in text as part of the images to make me remember.

LESSON LEARNT:
- be organised
- plan ahead
- map out your timing and journey
- refresh your memory
- business card - remember to give it them
- DONT break your phone
