From this interview I can tell that Beth is quite feminine as she loves dogs, poets, chose a sensitive attribute in what she admires in a person and an attractive actor was first on her list for a party although saying this there is the other side of her which involves burping... It's obvious from knowing Beth that she's an animal lover as from this interview and working with her in the past fluffy small animals often are mentioned which is backed up by the mention of hamsters and dogs within this interview. She appears to be a lover not a hater and to have a very caring nature which is supported by previous briefs where she's done about looking after hamsters and another which she researched circus animals. This could defiantly be a point of focus.

Looking at her blog:

I found a list of likes from a current brief

1. music
2. dogs/puppies
3. playing the piano
4. romance
5. photography

I loved Beth's designs for Circus food, the colours and patterns could be something to consider when designing her double page spread. She also used illustrative images which she turned digital which are simple and delicate in appearance.

For the postcard brief she used a poet Brautigan and flowers for imagery.

I found this :

ANIMAL CRUELTY AND THE CIRCUS

" From my research, although I have a great love for and interest in animals, the vast majority of my past projects have ended up somehow being about them. I have looked at cats, guinea pigs and pets in general so it is evidently time to head in a different direction.
One subject that appears to have potential is 'the circus'.  "

which i think encourages the point she loves animals.. alot.

For a brief Beth visited the Dogs trust where i found that shes an owner of two dogs herself:
"As an owner of two rescue dogs, a Fell Terrier and a Greyhound, I must admit that the whole experience was pretty heart wrenching, leading to my Mum actually crying."
and that she's very caring and considerate
"You couldn't help but notice how sad some of the dogs looked. It was gutting to leave without being able to give one a home (definitely wasn't allowed). Instead, however, my parents and I made a considerable donation and also made the decision to sponsor a dog."

Here Beth has used flowers and poetry again, a really girly trait. She's used the same poet which seems a favourite of hers.

A simple happy message

Again digital illustration

Pink cupcakes for the Typogautex brief - girly again with the colour pink and little sprinkles

Two Posters Beth blogged for hierarchy which she loved and i've pulled out some points as to why she liked it which will help in designed her spread

* Simplicity
* Use of body shape/language and text
* Usual, big, bold i-D logo that stands out
* Cheeky use of barcode
* No clutter of information
* No horrible in your face colours
* Really nice, crisp, bold, capitalised fonts
* I love you. What else is there to say?
* Use of the i-D eye

"Contrast between hand drawn and digital"

I found this type in one of Beths designs for a brief, i've noticed throughout this type and when writing in workshops she writes in this style, defiantly one to use!

photography and greyscale seem to be a trend in these images

Some info about herself on her ppp blog

"I am very much a hoarder and therefore always have weird things lying around. I always tend to use simple things like a ripped off postage stamp for example to create something bigger and better."

"I am capable of working with a whole range of media and over the years I have built up skills in photography and textiles, which I love including in what I do. For example in a previous foundation brief, I created image and text through free-hand stitch on a sewing machine. "

Main points i took away from this process about Beth:
  • animal lover
  • photography
  • greyscale
  • pastel colours
  • long thin type
  • caring character
  • flowers
  • poetry
