STUDY TASK 7 - SAMPLES OF WORK


Section D



Brand Polish

Section D promotional material targeting football clubs. Project entitled: Eleven Creative Ideas to Enhance Your Stores (plus a couple of reserves).

Strengths

The strengths of this is the concept and audience. Using boot polish as a choice of packaging format and even eleven ideas (with reserves) imitating the amount in a football team, it all makes the concept stronger. The media and formats are all appropriate to the audience and the idea and therefore makes the marketing campaign stronger.

It also is directed at s specific audience and therefore isn't generalised which would mean the concept would have to be diluted.

Weaknesses
It has a very focused audience which is good but does limit it. As it is just for football clubs they would have to create a whole new promotion concept for any other audience.

Opportunities
This gives them the opportunity to target a very specific audience which would mean direct communication between them. The audience would feel targeted in particular and wouldn't disregard it as general attempts.

Threats
Threats come from people who have worked previously with the clients there trying to gain.


Pentagram



 

Strengths
The strength of this piece of promotion is that it is interactive and that is evident in the response in the video. It interacts with the receiver and will encourage conversation between the client and studio as they will properly respond to them about there experience. As a holiday card it stands out as it isn't just a card its a publication and the concept of it matching colours with moods that we wouldn't be normally know adds interesting information to intrigue clients.

Weaknesses

It doesn't directly show any of there work except concept, layout and typography within the piece and it wouldn't necessarily connect with everyone that they mailed it out.

Opportunities
This is an opportunity for there clients to interact with them as they have to interact with the piece rather than just open a card and place it in a workplace among others. 

Threats
The threat that as it takes time to interact with it may mean that the client doesn't.


Apple & Pear


Strengths
Shows there passion for typography and letterpress within there stationary and theres a cheerful character to there printed material which expresses the attitude of the studio.

Weaknesses
It has a strong atheistic which might suggest there is a house design style to there work and suggests they are print and type based when they actually offer lots of different services. Also as it is typography based some may feel it looks to busy and not read it.

Opportunities
There is the opportunity to attract clients which really favour the atheistic they have used and also to maintain a friendly and cheerful tone of voice with the client as the character of the studio is applied to all there stationary which the client will interact with including the invoice.

Threats

The threat is that there are possibly other studios or printers out there with a similar atheistic with heavily type based or letterpress promotional material and theres might get lost or confused amongst them.


Joel Kimmel



Strengths
It is personal and appropriate the designer and represents him and his work. It was sent in bright green envelopes to make it stand out on the desk which gives it an extra chance of being seen. The cards are bold and striking through the use of characters and colour as well as the production and this with most likely encourage it to be passed around as other designers appreciate good print.

Weaknesses
If the band was to be seperated from the prints then his contact details aren't on them and they wouldn't be able to reach him.

Opportunities
It shows not only his talent for illustration but also production of the piece across old school techniques and more recent digital extending his skill set present in the promotional material. It also gives the opportunity to express him as a designer to an agency.

Threats
It might not be striking enough or relevant to the agency in comparison to the tonnes of other illustrators out there and he has the threat of not showing the full extent of his illustration skills with a range of different pieces.


Bandito Design Co.Bandito Design Co.



Strengths
The strength of this promotional piece is that it is celebrating there first year of designing things and it expresses there design style massively by using silk screen and there illustrations.

Weaknesses
It doesn't show any form of contact details for the design company and it doesn't speak to the client, more gives away free work.

Opportunities
They get to express the work they want to do to the client and what they will be able provide. 

Threats
Of giving away free postcards and designs without getting any response and targeting only a small majority with a specific style.



Monnet Design




Strengths
The money saved in on elaborate print and illustration went to the charity of choice of clients. Also with the holiday cards normally being elaborative and colourful this one actually stands out using short descriptions of those normal holiday cards with just black and white. It keeps the true concept of the holidays by giving to charity but also has a quirky and strong concept which stands out.

Weaknesses
Although the concept is strong the format isn't anything different and cards might not actually get opened and if they do they might be by the wrong person such as a receptionist.

Opportunities
The concept could be expanded to various formats and topics and be sent to range of people from family to clients to suppliers.

Threats
More interactive cards attract attention and they don't take notice of the brilliant charity aspect.

Clampitt




Strengths
As a paper company they made a clever tie in with there holiday card using a pop up snow globe. It's visually interesting and interactive and completely different to a standard card. It connects with them as a business and with the clients as there are fascinating to look at.

Weaknesses
The could very easily get damaged in the post or a malfunction in the pop up happen when interacted with.

Opportunities
Theres the opportunity to impress as it really stands out as a holiday card but also could inspire more work with a similar idea of pop up. 

Threats

Fabien Barral



Strengths
It has a specific audience of restaurants and pubs and therefore the format and design represents the message they want to communicate. The format of coasters is appropriate to there audience of clients and the design is to show them how they could use there love for typography products as part of there image. There craft of promotion in letterpress used on something used by there target audience everyday really connects with the client.

Weaknesses
It promotes there work as it is a piece of work but unless combined with something else it wouldn't mean anything to a client and doesn't express how to contact them or what they could do for them.

Opportunities
By using the format commonly used by the target audience it immediately shows the audience what kind of work and opportunities there design could offer.

Threats
The client doesn't understand it is promote there work.

HLK



Strengths
It has a specific audience of St.Louis Cardinals as they were looking for a new agency and therefore through the very specific target the concept is direct to them. It's not just a printed card or postcard it is an actual object which is highly appropriate to the client. It also is directed personally to key marketing executives in the agency making it personal and direct even more so.

Weaknesses
I can't really think of one other than postage may of cost a fair bit.

Opportunities
To gain a client through personal communication and keep a long term relationship with them.

Threats
Another agency could of topped them and they not win the client.

Christer Dahlslett




Strengths
There is a concept that is carried out throughout the whole promotional pieces which ties them all together as one. There is also a mail out for special agencies which is actually the tin and a picture mail out for ones there less interested in. This means the same idea can be sent out to various places without costing a fortune.

Weaknesses
They wanted to communicate there commitment, preciseness and attention to detail in this concept of being a surgeon but that could of been expressed more in a set of skills listed in doctors notes.

Opportunities
Could extend the concept to other formats and keep it on running with work being 'people' he's performed surgery on.

Threats
Appearing clinical and bland or after posting it it not even being looked at.
